Jared Says for March 2001
Be careful about throwing away something
that you perceive as having little or no value. This is especially
true when you come across a large volume of paper items.
I had the recent good fortune to obtain a large batch of paper
items pertaining to a tool manufacturer in RI during the 1800s'.
Filtering out the obvious material such as receipts and graphics
from manufactures and shippers left me with a large amount of other
material that I assumed was of little or no value.
How wrong I was! After a little research
I learned that collectors/dealers have a wider range of interests
than I thought. Specific areas I learned about included:
 |
Manufacturing companies |
 |
Manufacturing pertaining to a particular
state or locale (i.e.Caribbean) |
 |
Illustrated art via graphics or
vignettes on letterheads or bills |
 |
Bank checks |
 |
Revenue stamps |
 |
Transportation or shipping invoices |
 |
Handwriting or script (the lost
art of penmanship) |
 |
Old letters |
 |
Accounting details or ledgers |
It is amazing is the level of expertise
and knowledge that exists. I would like to thank all that assisted
me.
Take heart spring is just around the corner and picking should
get better.
Have a good month!
Jared
