June
means the end of another Nashoba Technical High
School lunch program for me at their Westford,
MA Apprentice Kitchen. Every Tuesday during the
school year for the past three years I have had
lunch with 94 year old Hazel Plummer.
We met about 15 years ago when I used to come
in every Tuesday for lunch and noticed an older
couple who the kids adored. Over the years we
became friendly and when her husband had to go
into a nursing home, and subsequently died, I
asked her to join me in my ritual Tuesday lunch.
To many of you who have had to live with or deal
with older people you may wonder why I befriended
her. That was easy. She is a warm, positive, and
intelligent person who treats everyone as if they
were part of her family.
She has been the focus of several local newspapers
when they have done stories on the culinary school.
As a result we are the two biggest fans of the
school always talking it up with others. More
important she has become a close friend with whom
I enjoy two of my favorite things: food and conversation.
Life should be as good for all of us.
A reminder if you are in RI over the 4th of July
weekend I will be having my annual yard sale on
Friday 5 July. Early birds welcome.
Good pickin' - Until Next Time,
Jared
