Jared Says for October
2002
Upper New York State has
a wealth of sights and beautiful scenery. My brother and I, in late
June, went to upstate NY to see baseball, microbreweries and vineyards.
We scheduled stops in Oneida, Cooperstown, Syracuse, Auburn and Troy.
Keeping
to the secondary roads our first stop was Oneida. We stayed at a wonderful
B&B run by 2 sisters, Bernadette and Pat, kountryliving@webtv.net
Two nights watching the Oneida Tigers and a trip to the Baseball HOF
and the Cooperstown Brewery gave us a good initial feeling. Then off
to Syracuse to see the SkyChiefs and see their two stars, J. Phelps
and O. Hudson, who are both now playing for Toronto. Off to Auburn
to see our local favorites the Lowell Spinners and a conversation
with Luis Tiante who was the pitching coach. Since we were close to
the Finger Lakes we took a side trip to 2 vineyards. The last stop
was Troy, but we were rained out before we could enjoy their new ballpark.
If you enjoy baseball the web site
www.minorleaguebaseball.com will be invaluable to you in planning
a trip.As far as finding a place to stay or eat just ask the locals
and you will find many gems that will be memorable to you as well
as the visitors centers.
As we head to the World Series it seems that this year may belong
to Atlanta. If not, may your team do well.
October is a beautiful time of the year. Enjoy it and good picking.
