Jared Says for June, July, and August

Jared Says will updated monthy again when Jared gets back from his summer in-person buying period.

My buying has sure picked up this month, but most of the items were non-paper. Usually, I stick to small items, but recently a pinball machine was too tempting to pass up.

During my hunting for items there was an interesting coincidence that occurred. At one yard sale I asked if there were any military items. As it turned out, that the person selling had been part of the Tuskegee Airmen. They were were famous in W.W.II (they were a colored unit the, then, segregated military). It was only in the later part of the war that they were allowed to finally fly in combat. The Airmen had the distinction of never losing a bomber which they had escorted.

This person did not get to fly because the war ended before he finished his training. However, he was a part of that famous unit.

Now for the amazing coincidence: I went down the street to another sale and there I mentioned who I had just met. This person got all excited because his father had taught flying to the Tuskegee Airmen. He wondered if his neighbor had known his father. I think he went to see him, but I do not know the outcome.

I am starting to collect away items for my annual yard sale in South Kingston, R.I., Friday 2 July. If you are in the area please stop by!

Here are some links to learn more about the  Tuskegee Airmen. there are lots of pages out there, and plenty of commerical ones on this facinating topic.

National Tuskegee Airmen Home Page
Joseph P. Gomer, an Airman's tribute page by his son
History Net page on the Tuskegee Airmen
Nice military museum page including pictures of the uniform and airmen
The Tuskegee Airmen Mutiny at Freeman Field
Tuskegee Airmen Museum, located in Detroit, MI
Short summary page
Yahoo had 1134 hits when I searched on "Tuskegee Airmen"

In the meantime good luck picking.
